Run it back running backs

Southwind High School's football team is buzzing with anticipation as they prepare for the 2024-2025 season, riding the momentum from a historic 13-1 record. The spotlight this season is on the running back position, an integral part of the team's strategy, especially under the guidance of running back Coach Rod Hall.

In an exclusive interview, Coach Hall (pictured below) shared his coaching philosophy. "My approach is about providing real-life experience while enhancing skills and values through sports," he said. This philosophy isn't just about football; it extends to building character and academic achievement, aiming for every running back to achieve a 3.0 or higher in the classroom.

For the upcoming season, Coach Hall has set ambitious but achievable goals. "I’m looking to produce a 1000-yard rusher with at least 10 touchdowns," he stated. This objective aligns with his desire to see his players excel not only on the field but also in life.

A key player to watch this season is senior running back Roderick Jenkins (pictured below #15). Despite injuries last season, Coach Hall is optimistic about Jenkins' potential for a breakout year. Additionally, a group of promising sophomores is expected to provide depth and energy to the team's offense.

When asked about specific challenges, Coach Hall said the following.

(Last year Center Hill was the team that limited us offensively. But I believe since we are more experienced we can have a breakout out game every game especially with returning All State Qb Kelvin Perkins leading the charge.)

This season, Southwind's running backs are not just football players; they are young men being groomed for success both on and off the field. The team's preparation goes beyond physical training; it's about instilling values and discipline that will serve these athletes in all aspects of their lives.

As the team gears up for what promises to be an exhilarating season, the focus on developing well-rounded athletes is clear. With a combination of seasoned players like Jenkins and the fresh talent of the sophomores, Southwind's running back corps is poised to make a significant impact.

The 24-25 season looks promising for Southwind High, with a strong team culture and a dedicated coaching staff led by Coach Hall. Their commitment to excellence in sports and academics sets a high bar, not just for the running backs, but for the entire team. As the season approaches, all eyes are on Southwind, a team that's much more than its record — it's a breeding ground for excellence, discipline, and success.
